Interior research is fundementally different from the research conducted in the external world. In the external world, the researcher finds subjects for his experiments,but in interior research, the researcher must become the subject himself. The task is enormously difficult, for the interior researcher must assume the attitude, "I am a researcher, I am a laboratory, and I am a subject". To have the conviction that one can successfully pursue this approach one must first gather sufficient information by studying the scriptures and visiting those teachers who really practice. - Swami Rama

As a psychologist practicing psychotherapy since 1964 I have become interested in what helps people become more loving, happy, resilient and tranquil. I believe that the development and strengthening of these attributes are an essential part of the spirtual journey. I have also been interested in what blocks the realization of these qualities in a person's life. One of the challenges in psychotherapy is to help people remove or transcend these blocks. Personally as well as professionally I have become intrigued by how religious and spiritual beliefs and practices can help this journey of healing. My experiences have led me to believe that it is possible to transcend suffering and become one with infinite unconditional love. I believe that a proper understanding of the world's major religious and spiritual traditions can help this journey. Within this context I view the scriptures of these traditions as manuals for psychological and spiritual development.

I am interested in hearing from you about how your religious and spiritual beliefs and practices have both positively and negatively impacted your ability to experience love, happiness and tranquility-- and also your resiliency when faced with difficulties. I am also interested in interpreting the Bible as a manual for spiritual development. If this interests you please read the volumes of Perennial Psychology of the Bible to be found under "Writings".
