Early Childhood, Elementary & Multilingual Education Department
Open to teachers who hold a valid WA state teacher’s certificate. This approximately 59 to 68+ credit Western Washington University program leads to an endorsement in Elementary Education based on Washington State Elementary Education Endorsement Competencies.
The Elementary Education major provides a combination of theory, methods and field experience that leads to a teacher certification K-8. The program centers an anti-bias, anti-racist, social justice philosophy.
This program leads to an additional endorsement in English Language Learner and/or Bilingual Education when accompanied by a professional teacher education program and a first endorsement in another content area.
The program in early childhood education consists of an academic major in Early Childhood Education and a sequence of professional certification courses that lead to teacher licensure Pre-K through third grade.
The Professional Program provides post baccalaureate and current É«»¨Ìà students enrolled in one of the 14 program aligned majors, to earn their teacher certification K-8. The program centers an anti-bias, anti-racist, social justice philosophy.
This program is for students who are not seeking certification to work in the public schools. Graduates can work in childcare centers, preschools, Head Start programs, and in after-school programs for school-age children.
