Environmental Studies/Journalism

Environmental Journalism offers the opportunity to explore the intersection between the natural world and politics, science, economics and culture. It combines rigorous research with creative storytelling.

Environmental Studies (Extension)

College of the Environment - Everett, Port Angeles, and Poulsbo is distance-based education for students located in these regions. The Environmental Studies major includes core classes in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities to prepare our students to integrate knowledge from multiple fields of study.

Latin American Studies

Courses in this major help students to develop analytical, interpretive, and evaluative skills. Divided in two concentrations this major seeks to address important themes that pertain to linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as the impact of the ensuing and continued contact among indigenous people, Africans, and Europeans as a result of the encounter, slavery, displacement, and immigration.

Urban Planning and Sustainable Development

Learn and apply innovative approaches to city planning and to improve the quality of communities from the local to the global level. The program stresses progressive change that leads to equitable, healthy, livable, and sustainable communities with an emphasis on social and environmental justice and equity.

Upside-Down Program

For students with a two-year technical or pre-professional degree, this is an opportunity to put those studies at the center of a four-year BA degree.

Theatre

The Theatre Arts major focuses on the liberal arts and the study of theatre as a whole. In addition to the major’s core classes, students select concentrations in Education, Design, Performance, Production, and/or Theatre Studies.

Spanish

Students of Spanish acquire the skills required to not only speak the language, but also to learn about and appreciate Hispanic societies, cultures, and artistic expressions. The guiding principle of the curriculum is that one of the best ways to understand a culture is directly through its language.  

Spanish with a Teaching Endorsement

The Bachelor of Arts in Spanish leads to a BA degree without teacher certification. In order to receive a recommendation for state of Washington certification, students must complete the teacher certification program. Please see the Department of Secondary Education for program admission, completion, and teacher certification requirements.

Sociology/Social Studies

A specialization in Sociology/Social Studies provides an excellent base of knowledge for individuals interested in becoming secondary-level social studies teachers. Completion of the Sociology/Social Studies BA leads to a teaching endorsement in social studies.

Sociology

A Bachelor of Arts in Sociology provides an excellent base of knowledge for students interested in professions such as public health, law, education, social services, and occupations within the criminal legal system. Sociologists acquire research skills that enable the study of vast array of human behavior: crime and punishment, the formation and dissolution of families, bureaucracy in organizations, and societal and global inequalities.
