East Asian Studies

The East Asian Studies program offers an interdisciplinary study of the area, with a primary focus on the countries of China and Japan. Under special advisement, Korea and Mongolia are also subjects for study.

Dance

The BA degree in Dance offers comprehensive training in dance technique, choreography, dance science, somatics, dance history, arts activism, and pedagogy. The B.A. allows students to tailor their course work to further their individual interests and is designed to prepare students for a variety of dance-related careers after college. This degree is constructed for students wishing to double-major in dance and another discipline.

Communication Studies

The Communication Studies discipline examines the ways in which humans interact through the use of symbols: verbal, nonverbal, and visual. This examination includes the critical study of communication behavior among humans as well as providing practical experience in the crafting and presentation of messages.

Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences

Grounded in the latest scientific theories and research, Western's Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences students learn to assess and treat persons with communication disorders â€“ from infants to the elderly. Students use state-of-the-art lab equipment and analysis procedures as they study sound, speech, language, and hearing.

Chinese Language and Culture

Western's Chinese Language and Culture program provides students with the opportunity to become competent communicators in Chinese language and culture, shared by 1.3 billion people, approximately one-fourth of the world’s population. Students engage in a rigorous curriculum with the goal of obtaining a competitive position in our increasingly globalized world.

Chinese Language and Culture with a Teaching Endorsement

The study of Chinese Language and Culture focuses on communicative skills and cultural awareness. With the addition of a teaching endorsement, this program prepares students to become successful language teachers at the secondary education level. 

Chemistry

Western's Chemistry program provides close student-faculty contact and relatively small classes, direct access to modern laboratory equipment and instrumentation, and opportunities for cutting-edge research under the direction of a faculty advisor.

Canadian-American Studies

On its own, the major provides an excellent international and interdisciplinary course of study for students looking for a broad-based, liberal arts education. Through identified specializations, the major is also designed to combine with other majors to add depth and international expertise.

Business and Sustainability

Western's Business and Sustainability program combines business practices with the principles of sustainability. This major prepares a student to analyze environmental and social issues from multiple perspectives, decide on action steps to deal with those issues, and then implement those action steps successfully.

Business Administration—Operations Management Concentration

Operations management determines what equipment, labor, tools, facilities, materials, energy, and information are required, how these can best be obtained, and how they are used to satisfy the requirements of the marketplace.
