Kinesiology—Exercise Science

A BS degree in Kinesiology – Exercise Science is recommended for students who wish to pursue a variety of career opportunities related to movement, exercise, sport, and wellness. The major provides a concentrated study of human movement from mechanical, physiological and pathological perspectives.

Statistics

Statistics provides the reasoning and methods for producing and understanding data. One advantage of working in statistics is that you can combine your interest with almost any other field in science, technology, or business. Many graduates will choose to pursue graduate programs in statistics, biostatistics, computational biology, finance, or the social sciences.

Sociology

A Bachelor of Science in Sociology provides an excellent base of knowledge for individuals interested in becoming researchers or data scientists. Students pursuing the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Sociology are required to complete a math-intensive course of study.  Students will obtain substantial experience with statistical computing, including programming and data analysis.

Psychology

Psychology’s attempt to understand the human condition takes many approaches: some psychologists study brain chemistry and its relation to behavior, some study the behavior of individuals in groups, and others participate in providing counseling or psychotherapy to people who are mentally ill or who have difficulty coping with the demands of life.

Polymer Materials Engineering

Students in Western's Polymer Materials Engineering (PME) program study the relationship between molecular structure, material properties and performance, and the manufacturing of polymers, composites materials, and products. The PME program is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

Physics

A Physics BS degree can open a variety of doors for jobs in high-tech industries, government labs, and as preparation for graduate school. Many graduates have found the skills acquired in our degree program have prepared them for further academic studies in physics, astronomy, engineering, patent law, medical physics, medicine, and education, to name a few.

Mathematics/Computer Science

Western’s Mathematics/Computer Science Program provides excellent preparation for graduate study or for careers in the technical, scientific, and mathematical application of computers. Students are able to apply their knowledge and expertise in the development of computer-based solutions of complicated mathematical problems.

In addition to theorems and theories, Mathematics offers distinctive modes of thought which are both versatile and powerful, including modeling, abstraction, optimization, logical analysis, inference from data, and use of symbols. The skills acquired in our program have prepared graduates for further academic studies in Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Oceanography and Education.
