Health and Human Development
A BS degree in Kinesiology – Exercise Science is recommended for students who wish to pursue a variety of career opportunities related to movement, exercise, sport, and wellness. The major provides a concentrated study of human movement from mechanical, physiological and pathological perspectives.
The major offers concentrations in tourism, community recreation, outdoor recreation, and therapeutic recreation. The department and faculty goal is to help students become knowledgeable, competent, and virtuous professionals — the sum of which is a foundation for professional excellence.
This program provides concentrated study of Physical and Health Education. The Physical Education and Health P-12 major leads to an endorsement in Health and Fitness and must be accompanied by the Secondary Education Professional Program offered through Western's Woodring College of Education.
A BS degree in Kinesiology — Sport Psychology specialization provides students with the behavioral knowledge and educational techniques to enhance performance in recreational, exercise, and athletic settings. The major blends coursework from psychology and kinesiology giving students an understanding of physiological as well as psychological considerations for movement and wellness.
The Kinesiology — Pre-Healthcare Professions program is a concentrated study of human movement from mechanical, physiological, and pathological perspectives. The Pre-Healthcare Professions option is ideal for students who wish to pursue post-baccalaureate study in a healthcare profession or preparation for careers in fields where movement and exercise prescription are a focus.
The Public Health major is appropriate for students who want to work in community, public, and global health; health communication; governmental and non-profit agencies and organizations; medical care settings; worksite wellness programs; and college and university student service health education programs.
